Did you know the Fairmont Hotel atop Nob Hill was scheduled to open on April 18th, 1906. The same day the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire occurred. Destroyed by fire, the Fairmont eventually opened exactly one year later to the day; April 18th, 1907.
