Another Fun Filled Fact 'bout San Francisco: The Ferry Building

Opened in 1898 by the architect A. Page Brown.


Featured prominently in the early silent film, A Trip Down Market Street. Ironically shot on April 14th, 1906.  Four days before the Great 1906 Earthquake and Fire.


At one time before the Golden Gate and San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridges were build in the1930s, the Ferry Building saw more traffic through its doors than Grand Central Station in New York City


Destroyed by a mutant octopus in the 1955 film, It Came from Beneath the Sea.


Today, the arcade in the Ferry Building has many types of unique  shops such as the Mariposa Bakery (an entirely gluten free cafe and bakery), Far West Fungi (a shop selling nothing but mushrooms), and the beloved Book Passage.
