From the SFHotelstories History File: People - Frank Chu, The 12 Galaxies Guy
From the Emperor Joshua Norton in the 1870s to Wavy Gravy in the 1960s, to today, San Francisco has been a destination for iconoclasts of all varieties.

Frank Chu (better known as the 12 Galaxies guy) is one of those too-few San Francisco originals we sorely need, and is known by most people for his signs proclaiming a proclamation from the council of the 12 Galaxies. What follows is usually a space-based variation of an indictment on whoever the US president is at the time.
His perennially present placard can be seen at every kind of public gathering from Gay Pride parades to Black Lives Matters protests, to mayoral inaugurations.
So popular was he, that a bar opened in the Mission District called the 12 Galaxies.
Frank Chu's image and signs have ventured the globe. Be it in Vilnius Lithuania, or Antwerp, Belgium the 12 Galaxies guy is now a worldwide phenomenon.
