Los Angeles is not the only city in California to be partially destroyed by unstoppable fires. San Francisco had a notable one in 1906, and it defined the city ever since.
If you stop and look at any city flag or official city vehicle, you will notice the seal of the city prominently features a symbol of the Phoenix rising from the ashes. Our beloved, and world famous Coit Tower is a monument to the fire fighters who saved Telegraph Hill, on which it stands.

Coit Tower
Although I’ve spent more than half my life in San Francisco, and honed my craft as a San Francisco expert, I was born and raised in Los Angeles. In fact, I’m a thrice-generation Los Angelino. A rare thing these days. If you know Los Angeles, my grandmother used to tell me stories of going to the corner of Wilshire and Western – and pet the cows! That’s how far back my family goes in Los Angeles, and why I still have a deep connection to it.
Suffice it to say it has been heartbreaking to see Anderson Cooper standing in front of something that used to be some place I frequented as a child. I grew up with wild fires being a regular thing, but this one feels different; worse than any of those.
