The Richmond District of San Francisco
Originally mostly sand dunes.
It was never the Richmond District until it was officially designated as such. Its official name, which no one ever used, was
the Park-Presidio District until it was finally changed in January 2009.
I lived there for 11 years.
Until WWII, it is where most of the cemeteries in the city resided.
It is where Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal, narrowly missed hitting a large piece of glass while riding a bicycle in the 1972 film, What’s Up Dock.
Woody Allen, who is more synonymous with New York City, shot two films in the Richmond District: Take the Money and Run and Play it Again Sam.
For thirty years it was where Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, lived in an ominous black house on California Street.
It is home to our Russian community.
Though more Richmond adjacent, the wealthy enclave of Sea Cliff was once home to Robin Williams and Sharon Stone.
